In 2022, Colombian President Gustavo Petro promised a bold energy transition, capturing the imagination of a younger electorate eager for a renewable future. But fast forward to 2025, and the reality is far more complicated. Colombia’s conventional oil and gas reserves are dwindling, political tensions are rising, and natural gas may be the only viable bridge to a lower-carbon future.
With the 2026 elections looming, can Petro deliver on his promise while keeping the lights on? Or will economic and political pressures force a pivot toward more traditional energy sources?
Join the Enverus LATAM Scout Team as they take a deep dive into:
Colombia is at a crossroads. Will natural gas be the compromise between ambition and reality?
