From Hours to Minutes: How Enverus PRISM® Transforms the RFP Search Process

byEvan Michalec

Melanie sits at her desk, sipping her morning coffee as she doomscrolls through what seems like an endless list of RFPs. From local municipalities to national utilities, the sea of opportunities blurs together, each one demanding her attention. A few promising leads surface, but for the most part, it’s hours of vetting proposals that end up in the “no” pile. As the clock ticks, Melanie can’t shake the feeling that her time is being wasted—time that could be better spent focusing on high-value projects with real potential.

Like Melanie, many professionals in the energy industry face the overwhelming task of filtering through scattered RFPs, trying to identify viable opportunities amidst a sea of noise. The frustration grows as the process not only eats into valuable hours but also introduces the risk of missing out on critical bids. In a competitive market where timing and precision are everything, the consequences of sifting through RFPs can risk companies falling behind, losing out on key projects and draining valuable resources.

This is where a streamlined, data-driven approach can make all the difference. Rather than letting valuable time slip away, tools like Enverus PRISM can make all the difference. These tools offer a faster, smarter way to find and assess RFPs. In just minutes, what used to take hours or even days can be accomplished—filtering out irrelevant bids and zeroing in on the projects that align with your business objectives. With PRISM, identifying the right opportunities and staying ahead of the competition becomes easier and far more efficient.

PRISM RFP opportunities are sourced from the U.S. and Canada’s IOUs, POUs, government agencies, cities and towns. Whether users are looking for the most recent bids, open RFPs or opportunities from the past week, PRISM’s filtering options allow users to narrow down results quickly. Users can search by state, technology type or even by the issuing company to find the projects that align with their specific business goals. For added convenience, users can also set up email alerts to stay informed about new opportunities and receive notifications directly to their inbox. This eliminates the need for constant manual checking, saving valuable time and ensuring that no opportunity is missed. Once an opportunity is identified, clients can dive into the details and start preparing their bids with the assurance that they’re focusing on the right projects.

Trends

So far, more than 2200 bid opportunities have been added to PRISM this year. In Q1 and Q2, most RFPs were related to solar projects and substations. As seen in the image below, this trend continues throughout the year. However, there has been a slight uptick in natural gas and EV opportunities in the second half of the year. Natural gas opportunities are represented in the lower darker shader purple, while EV is the magenta towards the bottom of the columns as well.

Number of RFP opportunities by month broken out by type and count.

As seen in the image below, the majority of solicitation types Enverus adds are turnkey and service opportunities. Turnkey solicitation types make up 38.6% of the opportunities and service opportunities make up 36.6% of total opportunities.

In 2024, California and Texas are the top two states where Enverus is seeing the most RFPs. California makes up for 9.5% of opportunities and Texas makes up 7.5%. New York is an area where we have seen an increase in total RFP numbers throughout the year, suggesting this may be an area to watch.

Filtering the tech type to solar in PRISM highlights another interesting trend. California is the state with the most solar opportunities with 40 (which accounts for 8.1% of solar opportunities). When filtering to solar, Texas is no longer displayed in the chart, meaning they are not releasing as many solar RFPs even though they are still make up a large portion of total RFPs.

All-Source RFP Project Siting Workflow

Traditional RFPs do not allow developers to have much say in where their project is located. Developers looking for opportunities where they can select specific project details to maximize value can narrow their search to all-source RFPs. All-source RFPs offer companies greater flexibility in choosing where to develop their projects. With PRISM, users can take this process a step further by using PRISM geospatial filters to optimize their project siting and planning.

All-source RFPs can be found in PRISM by filtering the RFP name to either “all source” or “all-source” and filtering ENVStatus to “open.” Users can review the results and select an RFP that they think will suit their needs. For example, the recent NV Energy RFP:

Users can filter the Electric Retail Service Territory to NV Energy to narrow down the area on the map. The Geospatial filter can then be used to populate substations, transmission lines, projects, parcels and Customizable Buildable Acreage (CBA) layers within the territory. This information helps a developer get an idea of the existing projects in the area and the transmission lines/substations that they can potentially tap into.

To narrow down parcel options for a solar project, users can add Average Daily GHI (Global Horizontal Radiance) to their map. Areas shaded in red, orange and yellow get the most sunlight and would be best for a solar project.

Users can refine the parcels in this area further by filtering on landowner, buildable acreage or even distance to nearest substation. With a more narrowed parcel view, you can start to consider a more in-depth customized buildability analysis to find the most suitable land for your project. To understand buildability, PRISM allows you to both visualize exclusion layers across the region or run a customized analysis using the CBA model to define your own layers and setbacks and calculate total buildable acreage.

CBA model specifications that can be tailored to a user’s specific needs.

In the example below, all land shaded in green is buildable land based on the above CBA model inputs. In this example, there are 2,874.6 acres of buildable land across these parcels. When the user is satisfied with the results, they can then use the parcel dataset to find contact information for the landowners and reach out to them.
